“Through her work, Carlos transmits a sense of vitality and primacy. Her artistic vocabulary brings the viewer face to face with that which is ancestral, arcane and yet fundamental.” — S. Herrera
Irene Carlos studied under Arnoldo Ramirez Amaya and Elmar Rojas, two of Guatemala’s most famous artists. It was under their direction that she adopted her very unique style of painting. Carlos’ paintings aren’t just colors and shapes—they are a visual vocabulary. They speak to the human condition and impart life lessons with colors, textures and lines.
Today, Carlos continues to paint from her studio in Guatemala, although her works can be found in galleries across the United States.
